Our overview can help teachers and researchers to address common misinterpretations more generally instead of remediating them each individually. These big ideas are depicted differently in histograms compared to, for example, case-value plots. Quantitative Graphs: Dot Plots, Histograms and Line Graphs, show details. The analysis revealed that most of these conceptual difficulties relate to two big ideas in statistics: data (e.g., number of variables and measurement level) and distribution (shape, centre and variability or spread). Making Histograms in TI-84, show details. The misinterpretations were clustered and-through abduction-connected to difficulties with statistical concepts. Hence, the research question addressed in this paper is: What are the conceptual difficulties that become manifest in the common misinterpretations people have when constructing or interpreting histograms? To identify these conceptual difficulties, we conducted a narrative systematic literature review and identified 86 publications reporting or containing misinterpretations. Refer to the following diagram for better understanding of histograms.Discover why Edraw is an awesome histogram maker: Download it Now. Note that for a histogram, the bins all must be the same width. If you want to be able to save and store your charts for future use and editing, you must first create a free account and login - prior to working on your charts. Research nevertheless indicates that students, teachers and researchers often misinterpret these graphical representations. To construct a histogram, a section of the number line is divided into equal chunks, called bins. × You are not logged in and are editing as a guest. Histograms are widely used and appear easy to understand.
